Dr. Nwando Olayiwola is Humana’s first Chief Health Equity Officer, responsible for leading health equity related efforts and population health initiatives for members and patients in Humana markets across the nation. She co-created Humana’s ambitious, industry trailblazing and cross-functional health equity strategy. Her team is implementing this strategy through multiple products, analytics, workforce, operational, clinical and community health innovations, partnerships, and programs, tackling health disparities and social needs for populations that have been marginalized or made vulnerable. Dr. Olayiwola is a member of the Company’s Management Team Extended, which assists the Management Team in setting out and executing on the company’s strategic business goals.

Prior to joining Humana in 2021, Dr. Olayiwola served as the Professor and Chair of the Department of Family & Community Medicine and Chief of Family Health Services at The Ohio State University, where she also founded the Center for Primary Care Innovation and Transformation and was the Chancellor appointed Co-Chair of the Anti-Racism/Health Equity Action Plan for the entire medical center and OSU’s 7 health sciences colleges.

Dr. Olayiwola was a Commonwealth Fund/Harvard University Fellow in Minority Health Policy at Harvard Medical School and received her master’s degree in public health with a concentration in health policy from the Harvard School of Public Health. She obtained her undergraduate degree in Human Nutrition/Pre-Medicine at the Ohio State University, Summa Cum Laude and With Distinction, and her medical degree from the Ohio State University/Cleveland Clinic Foundation.

Dr. Olayiwola also serves as a member of the Ohio State University College of Public Health’s Board of Advisors, a Health Equity Advisory Board Member for the National Quality Forum’s Measure Applications Partnership, a member of the Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Action (IDEA) Committee for the City of New Albany, OH, a Board Member for Healthy New Albany and is an active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. She was inducted into the National Academy of Medicine in 2022.
